logo-bubble-newOkiedokie! Back to my regular blogging schedule … all a buzz with billions of ideas after an inspiring trip to NYC last week for the National Stationery Show. Nice to come back to a long holiday weekend, spending time with my family and recharging my batteries. After fishing with my little boy, reading through all of my freshly downloaded issues of LMNOP, and filling an entire notebook of new ideas since Thursday, I am now gearing up for participation in Bubble New York next Spring to launch a collection of the BirdDog line for the little ones in our lives. Our envelope baby books, growth charts, mama calling cards and more are the top products in development. So much excitement on the horizon.

IMG_5579Here is my BirdDog messenger bag made with chocolate canvas and feedsack fabric to carry at the National Stationery Show. I didn’t get the feed sack wrap skirt done in time, I may have to enlist my mom’s help with that project when I get home.
I’m leaving on a plane in the morning for NYC! If you are attending NSS, look for the bird dog bag and stop me and say hello!!

ps. i am not a seamstress

My little guy is loving some classics right now including The Little Engine That Could and it’s mantra is one I am repeating for my own self this week as I prepare to head to NYC for the National Stationery Show May 17th-20th. I am not exhibiting this year, but I am going to network, distribute promos and press kits, attend seminars, mingle and source materials for new product I have in prototype mode. This version of the book was published in 1954{it was mine when i was little} and I smile when I read the part about the freight engine that is too important to pull the toy train because it carries big machines to print books for adults – I imagine my press was carried on a train once. At any rate, I’ll be chugging along this week … I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can!

I guess it’s acronym week. National Stationery Show! Just got my ticket and I’m headed out in less than two weeks to NYC for some paper action. Stationery Trends Magazine has a Spring/NSS issue that they publish just in time for the Show and the BirdDog Press feedsack patterned coasters are featured alongside LobotoME, ink+wit and ecojot on page 37 in the Green section! The BirdDog is not exhibiting this year, but we’re still going to mingle with the media, do some trendspotting, source some materials for new product ideas that we have and get a bite of the big apple. We will be reporting via blog and Twitter from New York, so stay tuned.

ps. Here are some posts from last year as Jenny and I reported from the Show.

You may remember my goals posted for 2008, if not, here they are again:
1. Develop product line for sale in stationery stores across the country.
2. Execute Marketing Plan like a well oiled machine.
3. Build a team for maximum streamlined production.
4. Perfect policies & process to keep things running smoothly.
5. Knock ‘em dead at NYC’s National Stationery Show!

Because winter is nearly over and it’s time for the renewal of spring, I thought I would give you an update on how we’re doing so far. Number 1 is almost finished. The products haven’t gone to production yet, but the product list, ideas & designs are 99% finished! The marketing plan is certainly in action, though we may not have quite made it to “well oiled machine” status as of yet. The team descriptions and job functions have been decided, now we just need to recruit the right personalities! Policies & Process are smoothing out – we’ll definitely have this one crossed off the list by Spring’s end. Number 5 remains to be seen, but we are confident! Of course we’ll have another update when we return at the end of May.
