Released in Europe in April, the BirdDog Press has been published in a 240 page, full-color, hard cover book!!! Our paper feedsack quilts and woodtype baby envelope book were featured. Yay!!!!! Can you tell I’m excited? I just got my copy yesterday, so I think this means it is available in the US now, too! I am honored to be on the pages next to heroes and colleagues like Studio on Fire, Sycamore Street Press and Stitch Design Co. Now, that’s Impressive! Here are the details:

ps. Yet another reminder that letterpress is enjoying a huge resurgence, there are two other books coming out this summer showcasing some wonderful letterpress design as well. Out of the UK, Rotovision is releasing Reinventing Letterpress by Charlotte Rivers, and friend, Brandon Mise of Blue Barnhouse in Asheville, NC has written Adventures in Letterpress for Random House.

Happy Friday! I have been off schedule with the blog for quite some time now and honestly this will probably continue throughout the summertime. The Lyons Open Studio Tour was last weekend and I am now trying to nail down which weekend indie craft shows to commit to for the rest of the summer. In the meantime, if you missed seeing the BirdDog Press on the tour, you can still catch a glimpse of another new direction with my feedsack pattern passion, more of an artprint style – affordable art in the form of little scenes of eco-crafted paper quilt collages. My first coffee shop gallery show is on display for the month of June at my favorite local Bhakti Chai hangout, The Stone Cup!

Speaking of weddings, we have collaborated our way to a unique wedding keepsake with our studio neighbor, Valerie Combs of Mon Atelier, who is a brilliant bespoke framing artist. Letterpress matting, french line details and handmade frames are her specialty and preserve wedding stationery suites with heirloom quality. The paper goods are mounted in a shadow box style and the border hand painted on an archival rag mat to set off the typography-heavy design. Then, using vintage wood type, we pressed the wedding date into the mat and finally the frame was custom constructed with a distressed finish to complete the ensemble.

This has been such a successful collaboration, we have begun crafting a line of photography-ready frames with letterpress patterned mats. Stay tuned for more on these designs soon.
