dream job

When I was in design school, earning my BFA in Graphic Design at the University of Tennessee, this was my dream job. I drooled over Charles S. Anderson’s work with French Paper Company {I still do}. Paper sample books and promos must be so much fun because you get to try out nearly every technique on all kinds of papers. So tactile, so experimental. But alas, it was the age of the dot com boom and I was pushed into other directions {namely Flash interactivity} and I have finally come full circle. I love that I am both designer and printer. I get to take a project from start to finish, concept it, design it, produce it, print it. I love my job.

Cheers to 20 years!

This is just the push I needed to finish my ABC Primer. I started my version of this very thing back in the early 90’s while I was getting my BFA in Graphic Design at the University of Tennessee, it started as a real project for school and I took it through several cycles even in the years after I graduated, but *sigh it goes something like this … A is for All-Nighters, B is for Balance, and get this … F is for Failure.

F is for Fail is Brent Barson’s typographical journey through his creative process. Watch and love this short film on Veer. I’m inspired once again, so look for my ABC chronicle which will be via letterpress {completely redesigned}… someday.

ps. while i’m sharing video, this one is fun too, from Egg Press celebrating their 10th year.

Twitter is awesome. I just met Amanda Jaynes-Ray and it turns out that we are not only fellow designers with collaborative projects in our future, but we’re also fellow Tenneseans! Check out her work here, and notice how she gives back both charitably and on the eco-friendly front. Loving the illustration on this re-usable tote bag.
