Had a little fabric fun with a friend yesterday. It was refreshing to do a creative project not for profit. We had a fun mix of feedsacks, reproductions and new fabrics, experimenting with applique on these little onsies. This is just a teaser, more to come on this project!

You’ve probably heard of the CPSIA by now. It affects those who sell handmade items intended for children under the age of twelve. In theory, this is a good thing given all of the scares coming from things produced in China, however, the way it has been put together, it will kill any small business lovingly making handmade things for little ones and put second hand stores out of business. CPSIA needs your voice to be heard and a little amending. Now that we have bought a little more time, with a one-year stay, I encourage you to read this and take action. Otherwise, things like what I am showing in these photos, will no longer be available for folks like you and me to buy by next year this time. Let’s keep buying handmade!

oh, no no no! Remember number eleven on my 25 random things??? well it’s about to come crashing down! the world has lost two fabulous magazines this week, TWO of the greats : Domino and WonderTime. I am sad to say goodbye to that monthly mailbox surprise. The rest of my list, i’m almost afraid to mention, I can’t take anymore publishing plummets:
{1} Seeing the Everyday {2} WonderTime {3} Garden & Gun {4} Martha Stewart Weddings {5} Dwell {6} How {7} Communication Arts {8} Domino {9} ReadyMade … and then two digital zines {10} Plenty {11} Craft
I think you can now get ReadyMade digital style too!, maybe I will go with some of my euro faves Junior & Living Etc. to fill the holes in my heart? What is on your subscription list?

My friend Jill, of DuchessCraft on Etsy, just got big notice from channel 10 in Knoxville for her Handmade Holiday Trunk Show 2008, which is sponsored by Yee-Haw Industries & Downtown North Association.
The Handmade Holiday trunk show is in full swing down in Happy Holler for it’s 3rd year. It’ll be over 3 weekends in the restored White Grocery Store on N. Central St. in the historic Downtown North area (across from the Time Warp Tea Room.) The show will run Thursday through Sunday each week. Support local crafters & local business. Give handmade!
The BirdDog Press sent a few things back home to native Tennessee for this occasion, but all the credit goes to DuchessCraft! If you are in the Knoxville area, go get your holiday shopping done uniquely and in a flash!
ps. I got one of these super cute Urchin T’s for my little guy – LOVE it!
